Guided visit to the chalet of the Countess of Edla, Parque da Pena

The Friends of Monserrate will organise, in a date to announce, a guided visit to the Chalet of the Countess of Edla in the Parque da Pena, with the collaboration of Parques de Sintra Monte da Lua. The visit will be led by Architect José Maria Lopo de Carvalho, one of those involved in the exemplary restoration of the Chalet of the morganatic wife of the King Ferdinand II, which has become one of the main attractions of the Parque da Pena.

1 tablespoon of cornflour

200 ml of cream

250 grs of flour

150 grs of sugar

Stories of Monserrate

On 5 December 2011, at 19.00h, the book “Histórias de Monserrate" (Stories of Monserrate) will be launched in the premises of the Livraria Assírio e Alvim, Chiado. This book is the result of an idea of Amadeu Lopes Sabino, that led the President of AAM to invite this author as well as Jorge de Oliveira e Sousa, José Lima and Paulo Castilho to write stories about Monserrate, and have it published by Assírio e Alvim.

Christmas at Monserrate

Christmas Carols + Christmas Sweets and Appetizers

On 3 December, Saturday, at 11.30h, all Friends of Monserrate are invited to participate in our traditional Christmas gathering, which this year benefits from the collaboration of the Choir of the Academia de Música Acorde de Sintra.

A choir of children/youngsters will sing Christmas carols in the balcony of the Palace, echoing the Advent festive spirit throughout the garden of Monserrate.

Words

Nowadays I keep thinking of words I came across many years ago in the Turin Book Fair – “Read and get over your cares” …

I must admit words are magical, because it is through them that we convey our thoughts. Through them we forgive, love, suffer, cherish, hope, dream and travel.

Words may be harsh or they may be soft, bitter, tender, superfluous, crucial, cause anguish, make little sense, but they can also be revealing and convey aspirations and memories.
